“We are saving Black History – one story at a time – so the hardest truths are never lost.”

The Miami Center for Racial Justice (MCRJ) was founded in 2020, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, out of a commitment to confront histories that are too often left untold. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to uncovering and preserving the true Black history of Florida — including, and especially, the stories that are hardest to hear.

Our mission centers on education: equipping all people, especially young Floridians, with this history so they can carry these stories forward for generations to come. We believe understanding the past is essential to shaping a more just future.

Central to our work are our Teach the Truth tours, which take participants directly to the sites where racial violence occurred. We believe history is best learned where it happened — so rather than teach from a distance, we bring people to historically significant places in Black Heritage, and tell the stories of those places that often leave a lasting impression and lead to teachable moments.
