The Rosewood Park
The Miami Center for Racial Justice is raising funds to establish a private park in Rosewood, Florida that will be dedicated to saving the history of Rosewood. There will be no charge to enter the park which is being established on the only black-owned land in Rosewood. The five acres undeveloped lot is owned by Dr. Marvin Dunn, who is making the site available to the Center for this purpose. Donors are asked to donate two thousand dollars for a named bench and one thousand dollars for a named chair which will be placed at a location in the park. Most will be placed along this stretch of the abandoned Seaboard Airline Railroad that passed through Rosewood connecting Gainesville and Cedar Key. Some Rosewood survivors were rescued by a train that was brought in secretly to evacuate women and children to Gainesville.
